Should Every Yogi Do Yoga Teacher Training?
Not sure if yoga teacher training is for you? Read this to see if it is a fit for you!
Should every yogi take yoga teacher training? It depends! The answer isn't straightforward because everyone is at a different stage in their yoga journey. However, I hope that by reading this blog and watching the video with the Heart + Bones instructors, I can inspire those who are ready to start the process.
Personally, I didn't start training with the aim of teaching. I was at a point in my life where I sought change and a sense of community. Prepared to let go of certain aspects, I found yoga practice already bringing substantial benefits. It seemed logical to pursue training as the next step.
Whether you're new to yoga or an experienced practitioner, participating in a yoga teacher training (YTT) can be a life-changing experience. The Heart + Bones Yoga Teacher Trainingis not just about teaching skills; it's about deepening your practice, establishing connections with a global community, and incorporating yoga's profound wisdom into your daily life.
Discovering deeper personal growth and insight
“Before starting yoga teacher training, many of us feel a nagging sense of dissatisfaction, no matter our achievements or adventures.” — Brea Johnson
Yoga teacher training offers a unique opportunity to explore who you are. It’s about more than mastering poses; it’s about understanding your mind and body, uncovering the reasons behind your emotions, and finding tools to bring balance and peace into your life.
“This training showed me that we can all teach and yoga is SO MUCH MORE. My body and abilities change all the time, and so should my yoga. It's not just on the mat, but in my daily life.” — Erin, Canada
By immersing yourself in this comprehensive training, you’ll gain insights that apply not just on the yoga mat but throughout your entire life. It’s a journey of personal growth and self-discovery that empowers you to navigate life’s challenges with greater ease and resilience.
For me, yoga teacher training was a birthday gift I gave to myself, acknowledging the need for dedicated time and space for personal growth. By assuming the role of a student, I allowed myself to study, practice, and allocate the necessary time.
Gaining practical tools for modern life
“The tools you learn in yoga teacher training help you identify what’s going on, and give you specific, practical tools to bring yourself back into balance regardless of what you’re going through.” — Brea Johnson
Modern life is filled with stress, uncertainty, and constant change. Yoga teacher training equips you with a robust toolkit to handle these challenges. From mastering your nervous system to understanding the principles of movement, the skills you acquire are practical and applicable in everyday situations.
“You’ll need the skills and education to teach yoga classes that welcome people just as they are.” — Brea Johnson
Heart + Bones Yoga Teacher Training focuses on mobility over traditional flexibility goals and teaches you how to create safe, inclusive yoga practices. Whether you intend to teach or simply want to deepen your understanding, these tools are invaluable for maintaining balance and well-being.
Connecting with a global community

One of the most enriching aspects of yoga teacher training is the community you become a part of. The Heart + Bones Yoga Teacher Training brings together people from around the world, forming a supportive and inspiring network.

You’ll build deep connections with like-minded individuals who support each other’s journeys. This community offers a sense of belonging and continuous support, making your training experience even more meaningful.
Embracing lifelong learning and growth
“A good yoga teacher knows that one training will not give you everything you need to know. Learning is lifelong and the best education is in the teaching itself.” — Brea Johnson
Yoga teacher training is just the beginning of a lifelong journey of learning and growth. The Heart + Bones training encourages continuous exploration and understanding, beyond just the certification.
As I mentioned earlier, yoga teacher training started a lifelong journey for me. It didn't just lead to teaching opportunities, but also exposed me to new ways of thinking and fostered a lasting sense of curiosity. I quickly realized that the best yoga teachers are lifelong students.
What I appreciate about Heart + Bones Yoga Teacher Training is the access to learning materials at my finger tips. At any point I can pop in and review and refresh.
“You have lifetime access to the course, including course updates. We love supporting our community after graduation and beyond.” — Brea Johnson
With lifetime access to course materials and ongoing opportunities for learning through live calls and advanced workshops, you’ll be supported in your journey long after the initial training ends. This approach fosters a deep commitment to personal and professional growth.
Integrating yoga’s wisdom into everyday life
“Yoga is a life-long practice of self-awareness and we view this training as much a teacher training course as a human being training course.” — Brea Johnson
The Heart + Bones Yoga Teacher Training is not just about becoming a teacher; it’s about embodying the principles of yoga in every aspect of your life. The training integrates ancient wisdom with modern movement science, offering a holistic approach to personal and professional development.
“Explore how to appreciate, not appropriate yoga. How to offer inclusive yoga classes, and understand the history of yoga through a modern context.” — Kat Boehm
You’ll learn to honour yoga’s traditions while making it relevant to today’s world. This comprehensive approach ensures that you can teach and practice with both depth and integrity.
What if I don’t want to teach yoga?
If you don’t plan to teach, that’s okay. Some start planning to, and decide to hold off, while others like me start thinking they never want to teach and discover a love and passion for teaching yoga.
I realized that a 60-minute yoga class could only teach me so much. I yearned for a more profound learning experience.
Through taking yoga teacher training, I discovered that I enjoyed teaching. I also overcame my shyness and fear of standing in front of a class. Yoga Teacher Training didn’t just make me a teacher, it created a deeper connection to the varied limbs of yoga and helped me personally grow.
In truth, teacher training can also be referred to as yoga immersion and life learning, as these form a significant part of the program. At Heart + Bones Yoga Teacher Training, not only will you learn anatomy and acquire the necessary tools to teach, but you will also have time for your personal practice and explore the depth of practicing yoga.
Teaching is just one part of what yoga teacher training is.
