Yoga Teacher Anatomy Tools: Day 5
Happy Hips and Confidence
Healthy, Happy Hips
Move better and more confidently in your hips!
Having confidence in everyday movements is important, especially as we age. One of the ways that you can help your students build confidence is to strengthen around the hip joints.
When the musculature around your hip joints can support the stability and movement of your hips, it helps to walk, run and with more ease and of course... confidence!
This Move + Learn lesson will help you build strength and stability around your hip joints with helpful balance work. The stabilizing movements naturally offer various options to help make your classes more accessible and some great progression work for building hip strength and lateral stability.
This class gives you a lot of great ways to support your students in building balance, hip strength and also shows you how to teach in a supportive and inclusive way.
I appreciate how this layers on with the other videos as it gives me a more viscerally rounded understanding of my hips and their supportive musculature. I really do sense my confidence growing from these kinds of moves, especially noticeable when I'm out walking. And my students have been loving it as well!
Homework
1. How are these movements different from the usual "hip opening" that popular yoga tends to teach?
2. How did it feel in your body? Did you hips enjoy doing this kind of work?
3. What poses would feel better after doing this hip mobility work?
Reflections + Next Steps
Now that you've been moving and learning embodied anatomy for the last five classes, how has it landed for you?
Don't forget that learning and integration takes time, and you can trust that seeds have been planted. To continue integrating what you've learned, stay curious and keep exploring these concepts in your body.
The beauty of this approach is that everything you learn can be applied to all yoga styles, and different poses or used on their own as warm-ups or somatic explorations. You don't have to teach it exactly like I do (but if it helps your confidence to do so, then that's perfectly welcome!) you can make it your own.
The series is over, now what?
